Genesis of the Word

Once upon a time, in the beginning, there was the Word: Preach R Sun – "Cotton" on Def Poetry Jam.

​Before the street, there was the stage—poetic, theatrical, televised, mainstream, contained. But spirit (the Word) demanded something far more unmediated and authentic from its vessel. The stage would not suffice; the Word desired TRUE activation. What began as televised theater and semiotic utterance ultimately necessitated a deeper physical, spiritual, and somatic transgression.

​Channeling the subterranean ethos of Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man, the appointed vessel (Preach R Sun) abandoned the comfort and security of formal venues and art's established paths, surrendering instead to the instructions of spirit and taking directly to the streets.

​The Sermon Series emerged as the first true activation: the subterranean voice stepping out of the dark to occupy public space as the Street Speaker—giving arrival to the ONEMAN. The Sermon Series marked the shift from spoken articulation to physical embodiment: the lived praxis of the Fugitive and Conjurer (Preach R Sun) in pursuit of absolute FREEDOM and a unitive SO(U)LE AWAKENING.
